  • Man sentenced for assault on taxi driver in Tullamore Assault · Co. Offaly

On 10 May 2023, Dean Hogan, 26, hit taxi driver Babatunde Lawai with a plastic glass at Church Street, Tullamore, after a dispute over a glass of alcohol, causing the driver to need steri strips to the top of his head. Hogan, who had been released from prison six weeks earlier, identified himself on CCTV and was remanded in custody. At a June court sitting, Judge Michelle Finan ordered a probation report, and in July Judge Andrew Cody sentenced Hogan to six months in prison, with the final three months suspended for two years, backdated to 23 May. Hogan must attend Frontline five days a week, counselling, and group and one-to-one sessions.
