Ayyappan Govindaraj, a 40-year-old Indian man, was arrested by Garda National Immigration Bureau officers at Terminal 1 of Dublin Airport on Friday 7 June 2024, after two other undocumented passengers' passports from the same flight were found in his luggage. He was charged with two counts under the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act, which allege he intentionally assisted another person's entry into, transit across or presence in the State. On 8 June 2024 he appeared at Dublin District Court, where bail was refused and he was remanded in custody pending directions from the DPP. He is due to appear again on Thursday, and he has not yet said how he will plead.
