On Sunday 31 August 2025, just before 10am, a man allegedly punched Dr Asif Iqbal, a 31-year-old Pakistani doctor, in the back outside University Hospital Limerick in Dooradoyle, and allegedly used racial slurs. Security guards intervened, and Dr Iqbal reported the incident at Henry Street Garda station. Gardaí confirmed on 5 September 2025 that they were investigating the alleged assault.
