  David Reynolds, 45, a former garda from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, pleaded guilty in May 2026 to coercively controlling his wife Ashley Masterson over a three-year period from January 2019 to July 2022. The behaviour included installing a tracker on her phone, recording 13 hours of conversations, controlling finances, and ordering her to stay at home or locking her inside. Reynolds was dismissed from An Garda Síochána in August 2026 after being suspended without pay since his guilty plea. On 2 October 2026, Judge Keenan Johnson at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court sentenced him to 18 months suspended for eight years, ordered €10,000 compensation, 18 months probation supervision, and anger management counselling.
