latest first- Garda inspector cleared of cocaine allegation in Limerick Possession of drugs (cocaine) · Co. Limerick
Inspector Arthur Ryan, a man, was alleged to have snorted cocaine at Hurler's Bar in Castletroy, Limerick, on 9 January 2019 while in the company of another senior officer and a detective. He was arrested by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in 2019, along with then-Superintendent Eamon O'Neill, a man aged 54, who was suspected of tipping off a Garda that his car had been bugged. The DPP found no case against Ryan, but an internal disciplinary board initially recommended his dismissal; on appeal, a tribunal at Garda Headquarters in Dublin overturned those findings and cleared him in August 2022. O'Neill was released without charge and informed in October 2021 that he would not face criminal charges. Ryan's three-and-a-half-year suspension is to be formally lifted by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
