On 12 April 2025, Arkadiusz Czarnohorski, a 48-year-old man, and Algimantas Mikstriunas, a 35-year-old Lithuanian man, were arrested at the Midlands Park Hotel, Jessop Street, Portlaoise, after Gardaí found a kilogram of amphetamines and half a kilogram of cocaine worth €50,000 in a purpose-built concealment in a car registered to Czarnohorski. Mikstriunas was found with €22,500 in cash in a grey duffle bag. Both men were charged with possession of amphetamines and cocaine for sale or supply, and Mikstriunas was additionally charged with money laundering the €22,500. Both were refused bail and remanded in custody at Portlaoise District Court, with the case adjourned to 8 December 2025 for service of the book of evidence.
