On 29 April 2025 at Fr. Browne Road, Portlaoise, County Laois, Arkadijs Jermolajevs, a 46-year-old man, was stopped while driving and his insurance disc was deemed fraudulent. He told gardaí he had bought a fake insurance disc from a man in Portlaoise. On 17 November 2025, Portlaoise District Court reported that he had been convicted of driving without insurance, fined €750 by Judge Andrew Cody and disqualified from driving for five years.
