On the evening of 9 August 2023, Anthony Nash, a 40-year-old man and former Cork hurler, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after his grey Skoda Kodiaq was found mounted in a ditch at Cloghroe in Blarney, Co Cork. Nash, who told Garda Catherine Byrne 'Do you know who I am?' and 'I'm drunk', gave a blood sample showing 236 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres, above the 50 milligram limit. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol under the Road Traffic Act 2010. On 16 June 2025, Judge Philip O'Leary at Cork District Court dismissed the case after defence barrister Paula McCarthy cited a lack of evidence as to the time of driving, as the prosecution must prove driving occurred within three hours of the alcohol test.
