  Anthony Mulhern, 69, a man, shot his nephew Gary Mulhern, a man in his 30s, in the left forearm with a double-barrelled shotgun on 27 August 2018 at the entrance to a field in Donegal Town during a dispute over 55 acres of land. He was arrested and questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Ballyshannon Garda Station. He pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm under the Firearms Act and assault causing harm. At Donegal Circuit Court in December 2022, Judge John Aylmer sentenced him to 18 months in prison after reducing pre-mitigation sentences of six years and four years and suspending portions of both.
