On 20 October 2019 on the N7 at Kill West, County Kildare, Anthony McBride, 31, was prosecuted for driving with excess alcohol. He appeared by videolink from Mountjoy Prison at Naas District Court, where his barrister said he had not been able to contact him, and the judge criticised prison authorities for blocking solicitors and barristers from phoning clients in custody. In the case reported on 14 March 2024, the judge imposed a two-year driving disqualification. McBride is serving a four and a half year term for a separate offence and is not due for release until August 2026.
