Anthony Gath, 31, of Bunaterin, Tullamore, Co Offaly, a member of An Garda Síochána, is accused of sexually assaulting a female garda at her home on 27 June 2019. The evening before the offence, both had been at the races and then went to a hotel with other colleagues before going to the victim's apartment, where the victim recalled being woken and feeling Gath's hand under her underwear. He pleaded not guilty at Tullamore Circuit Court in April 2022 and was found guilty after a two-day trial earlier in 2022. On 7 December 2022, Judge Keenan Johnson sentenced him to three years with two years suspended on a €500 peace bond, 12 months' probation supervision, and placement on the sex offenders' register.
