  Anthony Byrne, a 40-year-old man, posed as a letting agent called Stephen Cummings and used a doctored contract to collect €3,000 each from four people at Applewood Crescent, Swords, Co Dublin, on 13 and 14 September 2020. He had access to the property through his work with a contractor and placed an advert on daft.ie using a prepaid Mastercard and phone registered under the fictitious name. Byrne pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 22 November 2021 to four charges of inducing another to pay €3,000 by deception and use of a false instrument. Judge Melanie Greally remanded him on continuing bail and adjourned the case to 28 February 2022 for sentencing, with a Probation Service report ordered.
