Anthony Barrett was stopped by Detective Garda Damien McGovern on Killashee Road, Longford, at 10.30pm on 24 March 2020, with no insurance displayed. He was charged with having no insurance on his vehicle, and the court heard he had not produced insurance at Longford Garda Station within the ten days he had chosen. He appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens at Longford District Court, where a charge of failure to produce insurance was marked and taken into consideration, and he was fined €400, paid in court that afternoon. The Longford Leader reported the sentence in April 2024, which is the latest development.

On 12 October 2019, Anthony Barrett, 22, from Longford, told two men he was a garda and sprayed them with pepper spray at Glancy's Car Park, Cortober, Carrick-on-Shannon. The victims were Shane Jessup and a man identified as David Moran in the plea hearing and David Nolan in the sentencing. Barrett pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to both men and to possession of a pepper spray can on 25 February 2022. On 27 September 2022, Judge Sandra Murphy at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court sentenced him to four months suspended for 12 months on each assault charge and 120 hours of community service for the possession charge.
