John Sheridan, 70, of Enniscorthy, Wexford, was convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and three counts of assault causing harm to his wife Ann Sheridan, 64, on dates between January 1994 and June 2002. Sheridan had pleaded not guilty to all seven counts. He was sentenced to 18 months, suspended in full, and ordered to hand over his interest in the family home to his wife. The judge noted the pattern of abuse would now be considered coercive control.
