latest first- Supreme Court overturns postponement of armed robbery extradition in Dublin Extradition (armed robbery; illegal possession of firearms) · Co. Dublin
Andrius Sciuka, a Lithuanian man, was arrested in Dublin in June 2020 on a European arrest warrant for being part of a group that carried out an armed robbery and for illegal possession of firearms. The High Court ordered his surrender to Lithuania in January 2021, but the Minister for Justice requested a postponement in February 2021 after flights from Ireland to Germany were cancelled due to the high prevalence of Covid-19. The High Court and the Court of Appeal both granted the postponement on humanitarian grounds. In December 2021, the Supreme Court overturned both lower court decisions by a 4-1 majority, ruling that the Minister failed to establish that no practical alternative to travelling through Germany existed for the surrender.
