  • Garda whistleblower settles WRC penalisation case in Dublin Whistleblower penalisation · Co. Dublin

Lois West, a senior Garda analyst and deputy head of the Garda Síochána Analysis Service, claims she was penalised at work after testifying to the Oireachtas Justice Committee in March 2018 about errors in recording official homicide data, alleging bullying and sexual harassment by a senior official whose identity is suppressed by WRC order. She was placed on half pay from March 2021 and reduced to no pay from December 2022 while on extended sick leave. The WRC hearing at Lansdowne House in Dublin, under the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 and other legislation, began in March 2024 and was reopened before adjudicator Roger McGrath in November 2025. In July 2026, West's lawyers confirmed the parties had reached a compromise and settlement of the proceedings.
