Cases
latest first- Man's manslaughter sentence increased on appeal in Dublin Manslaughter · Co. Dublin
Derek Reddin, a 31-year-old man, was fatally stabbed at Loughlinstown Drive in south Dublin on the night of 14 October 2019 during a street fight that arose from a feud between associates of both men. Andrew Lacey, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and charged with murder, pleaded not guilty, and was tried at the Central Criminal Court before Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring. A jury acquitted Lacey of murder but convicted him of manslaughter in July 2023, and he was sentenced to six years in custody with 18 months suspended. The Court of Appeal increased his sentence to six years and nine months with no part suspended in March 2024 after a DPP appeal found the original term unduly lenient.
