Andrew Finni, a 22-year-old man from Dundalk, Co Louth, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a convenience shop in Dublin on 21 February 2018. He pleaded not guilty and the woman testified that he came from behind and grabbed her vagina while she was stacking shelves. At his trial in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, defence counsel argued that missing CCTV footage denied his client a fair trial. On 25 November 2021, Judge Elma Sheahan directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict, citing the failure to preserve the footage.
