On 17 June 2025, Andrew Croke, a 27-year-old man, was seen at a checkpoint driving a 2008 Dublin registered vehicle on Main Street, Kinnitty, Co Offaly, and was charged with intoxicated driving. The garda said he could smell cannabis, Mr Croke admitted smoking the drug, and a blood sample showed cocaine and cannabis. At Tullamore District Court, the charge was amended on the application of Sergeant Brendan Kearns after Judge Andrew Cody asked why the prosecution was brought under one section when a lesser offence was available. Mr Croke pleaded guilty to intoxicated driving, and the outcome reported on 28 November 2025 was a three-year driving disqualification and a €250 fine.
