The driver, Andreia Dos Santos Araujo, a woman of Barrack Lane, Kilkenny, fled the scene and tried to flee again during arrest, and a breath test at Kilkenny Garda Station showed 94mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. She pleaded guilty to drink driving, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. On September 25, 2024, Kilkenny District Court sentenced her to five months' imprisonment for drink driving and five months for driving without insurance, with recognisance set in the event of an appeal.
