  On 22 April 2024, shortly after 8:30pm, Andrea Bartlett, an American woman in her 80s, was approached from behind on Port Road, Killarney, and had her handbag grabbed, causing her to fall and break her arm. She was taken by ambulance to hospital in Tralee, where her injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and €325 was taken. Tomas Starodubcevas, a 24-year-old Lithuanian man, was arrested after a search operation on 9 May 2024 and charged with one count of robbery under Section 14 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001. He appeared at Listowel District Court in May and was remanded on bail with conditions. In July 2024, the District Court judge refused jurisdiction and adjourned the matter to September for a book of evidence to be compiled for the Circuit Court.
