On 24 November 2025 at about 6.30pm, André Oliveira, a 26-year-old Brazilian delivery rider, was cycling on the Royal Canal in Phibsboro, Dublin, when a group of about 10 people, some of them children, struck him on the head with a piece of wood, stole his bike and phone, and filmed the attack. He had emergency surgery for a brain bleed at Beaumont Hospital and also has fractures to his shoulder and ankle. No arrests or charges have been reported, and on 2 December 2025 gardaí appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage while Mr Oliveira remained in hospital with no discharge date.
