• Romanian woman pleads guilty to begging at Letterkenny cathedral Begging · Co. Donegal

  Ana Calin, a 53-year-old Romanian national, was arrested on 14 November 2022 after Gardaí received complaints about her begging outside St Eunan's Cathedral in Letterkenny during 10am morning mass. She was found sitting on a sleeping bag with a paper cup containing a small amount of change. She was charged with begging under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act and appeared at Letterkenny District Court the same day, where one account records she pleaded guilty. Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the case to 23 January 2023 and granted bail on the condition that she provide a suitable address to Gardaí within four weeks.
