  • Rooney given suspended sentence for money laundering in Drogheda Money laundering · Co. Louth

Eight people, seven women and one man, were charged with money laundering and drugs offences in relation to the Boylan organised crime group in Drogheda, Co Louth, with offences dating from 2020 to 2024. The accused, including Michaela Fitzpatrick, 33, and Amy Rooney, 31, are alleged to have used the Revolut payment app to move money for the group. Fitzpatrick, who also faced organised crime and drug importation charges after a controlled delivery of cannabis from Thailand in January 2024, pleaded guilty and was jailed for two years at Dundalk Circuit Court in January 2026. Rooney pleaded guilty to laundering more than €34,000 and was given a two-and-a-half-year sentence, fully suspended, at the same court in May 2026. The remaining six accused are to face trial on indictment.
