  • State opposes early licence restoration in Clare careless driving death case Careless driving causing death · Co. Clare

On 15 March 2017, a truck driver pulled out from behind a bus between Ennistymon and Inagh, Co Clare, killing three-year-old Estlin Wall and seriously injuring her father Vincent Wall. Senan O'Flaherty was sentenced by Judge Gerald Keys at Ennis Circuit Court in April 2020 to a combined fine of €1,500 and a four-year driving ban. The DPP appealed the sentence as unduly lenient, and the Court of Appeal in January 2021 upheld the fine and ban while adding a suspended 16-month term. In February 2023, the State opposed O'Flaherty's application at Ennis Circuit Court for early restoration of his driving licence.
