On 11 December 2021, a Ford Ranger SUV driven by Shaun Kelly, a 33-year-old man, struck Alicia Guilleux, a 31-year-old French woman, and her partner Florian Avril as they crossed South Great George Street, Dublin 2, hand in hand. Guilleux was dragged under the vehicle and died two days later in hospital. Kelly was charged with careless driving causing death and possession of drugs for sale or supply. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in March 2024, Kelly pleaded guilty to both offences and received a one-year sentence suspended in full for the driving offence, a one-year driving disqualification, and a three-year sentence suspended in full for the drugs offence.
