Eight realistic imitation handguns resembling semi-automatic pistols were seized from the Fone Geek shop at 28 JKL Street, Edenderry, County Offaly, on 13 November 2024 by Detective Sergeant Colm Coffey of the Offaly Drugs Unit. Ali Raza, a 29-year-old Pakistani-born man, was charged with possessing the eight airsoft airguns in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990. He was arrested in May 2025, and after Judge Cody refused jurisdiction at Tullamore District Court, the case went to Tullamore Circuit Court where a jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict on 12 June 2026. Judge Keenan Johnson ordered Raza to make a €10,000 donation to Edenderry Tidy Towns, with the Probation Act to apply if paid, and adjourned finalisation of sentencing to 7 July 2026 in Portlaoise Circuit Court.
