Alfred Jose, a 21-year-old man, was prosecuted for breaching the Public Order Act over an incident on Main Street, Maynooth, Co Kildare, on 9 August 2024, when he was upset by a comment he felt had a racial connotation. He was arrested at 6.30pm after being ejected from a pub; it was claimed he was extremely upset and aggressive towards members of the public and gardaí, while defence counsel said a bar staff member had physically grabbed him after asking him to leave. A report published on 7 January 2026 said he appeared before Naas District Court, where the judge indicated he would strike the matter out if he made a charitable donation to the Garda Benevolent Fund. The case was adjourned to allow that donation to be made.
