latest first- Man remanded in custody over murder of Paul O'Connor in Mallow Murder · Co. Cork
Paul O'Connor, 56, a man from Ballyphehane in Cork, was found dead on a walkway near the River Blackwater at Ballyellis, Mallow, Co Cork on 15 October 2026 after travelling by train from Cork city the previous evening. He is believed to have been shot at close range with a shotgun in what gardaí are investigating as a gangland-style execution, possibly over a drugs debt. Alfred Gjonaj, 39, an Albanian man, was arrested in Mallow on 19 October and charged with murder at Fermoy District Court on 26 October, where he was remanded in custody. A woman in her 40s arrested on 23 October was released without charge. Gjonaj was further remanded in custody by video link and is due to appear again on 10 November.
