On 30 August 2024 in Dalkey, County Dublin, Alexander Crowley, a man reported as 20 or 21, waited about 10 to 15 minutes in an alley beside a supermarket and grabbed a 19-year-old woman from behind as she left work at around 10pm. Crowley had absconded hours earlier from the psychiatric facility where he was an involuntary inpatient, a public alert was issued for him, and gardaí returned him several days after the offence. He pleaded guilty to two counts of false imprisonment and one count of stalking. On 5 May 2026 Judge Orla Crowe at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court imposed three years with the final year suspended, though the reports differ on whether he was jailed for two years.
