On 19 April 2020, Alan Toner, a 19-year-old man who was a juvenile at the time, stabbed a son in the back and his father in the lower back in a housing estate in Castleross, Dundalk, after being asked to leave a house party and returning looking for cigarette filter tips. The son received five sutures and the father sustained a cut to his arm; both have since made a full recovery. Toner pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing harm at Dundalk Circuit Court.
