On 6 October 2024, at around 2am, a disturbance broke out outside premises on Quay Street, Donegal Town, in which gardaí escorting a group of males from a takeaway were assaulted, leaving three officers injured. Five men – Michael Flanagan, 21, Darragh Flanagan, 18, Mark Hughes, 22, Darragh Clerkin, 24, and Sean Lynam, 23 – were arrested at the scene and charged with public order offences and assaults on gardaí. The men appeared before Donegal District Court in November 2024 and the cases were adjourned for DPP directions; in October 2025 the DPP directed summary disposal on a guilty plea only. In March 2026, Mark Hughes was dealt with under the Probation of Offenders Act without a conviction after apologising in court, while the other four men's cases remain ongoing.
