  Alamin Mohammad, a 19-year-old man, was convicted at Kilkenny District Court of drug driving, driving without insurance and speeding after a Volkswagen Passat turned away from a Garda checkpoint at Deansground, Kilkenny on June 17, 2023. He failed a roadside oral fluid test and a blood test at Kilkenny Garda Station proved positive for cannabis, and a speed van had recorded him at 69kph in a 50kph zone at Callan Road on May 21, 2023. He pleaded guilty to all charges, and Judge Geraldine Carthy imposed fines totalling €500 and driving disqualifications of two years for no insurance and one year for drug driving. Mohammad, who has previous convictions for robbery and assault causing harm, is currently serving a prison sentence.
