Cases
latest first- Man on appeal after rape and indecent assault conviction in Enniskerry Rape; indecent assault · Co. Wicklow
Declan Hannon, an Irish man who was 17 at the time of the offences, was convicted in April 2019 of raping Aisling Vickers, an Irish woman who was nine, on four occasions and of two counts of indecent assault in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, in the summer of 1987. Gardaí first contacted Aisling in 2013, and after two collapsed trials and a Supreme Court ruling, a third trial in March 2019 resulted in a guilty verdict on all six charges. Hannon, who was 52 at the time of his conviction, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment in May 2019, and a gagging order was overturned in November 2020, allowing him to be publicly named. In November 2022, the Court of Appeal heard his appeal arguing the delay prejudiced his defence, and reserved its judgment.
