  On 19 July 2024 at the Kyle Shopping Centre in Portlaoise, Co Laois, a BMW parked near Elverys shop was found damaged and scratched along one side. Aisling Ruane (47), a woman, was charged with four counts of hit and run, and the case was heard at Portlaoise District Court. Court reports differ on the outcome: one says she was convicted on two of the four counts, while another says she was convicted without giving the number of counts. She was disqualified from driving for two years and fined €250 on each of two counts, as reported on 12 and 13 September 2025.
