latest first- Shannon Airport incursion trial adjourned pending Supreme Court ruling Public order offences · Co. Clare
Three pro-Palestine activists were arrested at Shannon Airport, County Clare, on 30 March 2024 after attempting to block US military planes during a Land Day protest. The three, Emer Walshe (33), Aine Ní Threinír (35) and Aindríu De Buitleir (29), sat on the ground near parked aircraft and had to be removed by a Garda, causing the airport to close for 35 minutes. They were charged with interfering with the operation, management and safety of Shannon Airport and with trespass at the West Apron, and deny both charges. The case was sent to Ennis Circuit Court for a jury trial, and in February 2026 the trial was adjourned pending a Supreme Court ruling on the defence of necessity.
