Aileen Conroy, 44, a woman from Patrick Street, Durrow, was fined €750 by Judge Andrew Cody for allowing an unlicensed driver and using abusive language toward a garda. The incident occurred on 12 December 2022 when her vehicle was stopped at Patrick Street, Durrow, and she called Garda McAteer 'the Gestapo of Laois' and compared him to Nazis. Her defence solicitor Philip Meagher cited mental turmoil, a difficult pregnancy and birth, and that she was a mature student with a young child. The unlicensed driver had already been dealt with in court, and the woman had no previous convictions.
