• Dublin woman raped in 2005 meets attacker through restorative justice Rape · Co. Dublin

In 2005, Ailbhe Griffith, a 21-year-old woman, was raped in Dublin after a man sat beside her on the bus and attacked her during the four-minute walk from her bus stop to her home. The man, who is not named in the sources, pleaded guilty to rape and was sentenced to nine years in prison. Nine years after the attack, Ailbhe met him face to face in a one-hour restorative justice meeting facilitated by Dr Marie Keenan, and he apologised afterwards. On 26 August 2025, Ailbhe spoke about the case to RTÉ Radio One, describing how facing her attacker changed her experience.
