latest first- Man sentenced to life for double murder in Sligo Murder
Yousef Palani, a 23-year-old naturalised Irish citizen of Middle Eastern origin, was arrested on 13 April 2022 and charged with the murders of Michael Snee, 58, and Aidan Moffitt, 41, in their homes in Sligo on 12 and 10 April 2022, and with the attempted murder of Anthony Burke, 50, on 9 April 2022. Gardaí believe Palani met the victims through a gay dating app and was motivated by hatred of gay men. He pleaded guilty to all three charges at the Central Criminal Court on 31 July 2023. On 23 October 2023, Palani was sentenced to life in prison for each murder and a concurrent 20-year term for the attack on Burke.
