On the evening of 20 June 2024, Gardaí at a checkpoint in Cashelshanaghan, Letterkenny, seized a Honda Civic driven by 20-year-old man Aidan McCullagh after discovering a leaking brake pipe hose clamped to the front driver's side wheel with vice grips. An RSA inspector confirmed the makeshift braking system, and the vehicle's NCT had been out of date since November 2022. McCullagh pleaded guilty at Letterkenny District Court in June 2025.
