Detective Garda Aidan Bracken, who has been on sick leave since 2015 after claiming psychiatric injuries sustained while investigating criminal gangs in County Kildare, had previously won four judicial review actions against the Garda Commissioner. An August 2021 High Court order required the Commissioner to conduct a fair assessment of Bracken's injuries through the Chief Medical Officer, but the assessment has not been completed. On 24 November 2021, Mr Justice Charles Meenan granted Bracken permission to bring contempt of court proceedings against Garda Commissioner Drew Harris over an alleged failure to comply with that order. The matter was adjourned for two weeks.
