Ahmed Ali Adow, a 39-year-old Somali man, was questioned at Dublin Airport after arriving on a flight from Barcelona on 16 July. Immigration officers became suspicious of a Swedish passport he produced, and a search found a Belgian passport belonging to a male. Adow pleaded guilty at the Circuit Criminal Court to two counts of breaching section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act 2021, after arranging flights and look-alike passports for two people who said they had paid to leave Somalia. The court set a headline sentence of four years, reduced it to two years and six months, and backdated it to when he went into custody last July.
