Adrian Short, a 45-year-old man and former member of the Irish Defence Forces, pleaded guilty to possession of seven images and 14 videos of child abuse material found on a Samsung Galaxy phone during a search of a property in Lucan, Co. Dublin, on 29 March 2021. He was arrested by arrangement at Clondalkin Garda Station on 24 May 2021 following a referral from the Garda National Protective Bureau. The case was adjourned on 21 June 2022 for an independent risk assessment. On 21 October 2022, Judge Melanie Greally sentenced Short to sixteen months in prison, suspended in full, with probation supervision and counselling conditions.
