latest first- High Court halts second disciplinary inquiry over Garda's removal of Bluetooth speaker from seized vehicle Theft / misuse of property (disciplinary) · Co. Cavan
Garda Adrian Ivers, who was stationed in Cootehill, Co Cavan, was suspended in February 2020 over the alleged improper removal of a Bluetooth speaker and charging cable from a vehicle impounded at a Garda station. He said he took the items because the vehicle would not lock. In May 2020 the Garda Commissioner issued him a notice of termination, which he successfully challenged in the High Court, and the DPP later directed that no charges be brought. After Gsoc recommended disciplinary proceedings in October 2021, a board of inquiry set up in March 2023 could not proceed for lack of documentation, and the commissioner appointed a second board in October 2023. The latest development is that Mr Justice Garrett Simons ruled, in a judgment reported on 8 November 2024, that Ivers should not face a second inquiry and is entitled to an order quashing that appointment.
