  • Man found not guilty by reason of insanity in Dublin murder Murder · Co. Dublin

A 19-year-old man, Adam, stabbed his mother's partner, 52-year-old Bryan Cassidy, in the eye and six times in the abdomen in the garden of his home in Dublin on 7 February 2018. Adam had been discharged from the emergency department of Tallaght University Hospital about two weeks earlier after his mother, Fiona Nolan, brought him there with paranoid and psychotic thoughts about killing Cassidy with a kitchen knife. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity of the murder. In March 2025, the HSE settled a High Court action for €150,000, apologising to Nolan for deficits in care and admitting a breach of duty of care.
