    A 48-year-old man, Abualmwahib Mekki, drove at speeds of up to 160kph on the M1 in Louth on 20 April 2022, close to an unmarked patrol car before attempting to undertake the garda vehicle. He was originally charged with dangerous driving but the charge was reduced to careless driving with consent. He was convicted of careless driving at Dundalk District Court on 28 March 2023 before Judge Eirinn McKiernan. The judge did not disqualify him from driving, noting he is a supervisor in a pharmaceutical company in Dundalk.
