Abdisalan Artanhasan, aged 20, was accused of having no insurance for an e-scooter on Main Street, Portarlington, on 26 July 2023. The e-scooter was stopped in Portarlington. At Portlaoise District Court, reported on 5 July 2025, defence barrister Andrew Dunne BL said insurance could not have been obtained because e-scooter regulations had not been introduced at the time, and asked the judge to strike out the prosecution. The judge struck out the case because the prosecuting garda was not present, and no sentence is reported.
