• Carpenter convicted of claw-hammer assault and burglary in Ennis Assault causing harm · Co. Clare

Alan Mounsey, a 46-year-old carpenter from Ennis, was found guilty by a jury at Ennis Circuit Court of assault causing harm and aggravated burglary after allegedly beating Aaron Moloney with a claw hammer at Moloney's home in Clarecastle, Co. Clare, on 22 February 2025. The assault, which took place in front of Moloney's two children aged 12 and 10, allegedly followed threatening messages Moloney sent about Mounsey's fiancé and their unborn child. Moloney sustained a fractured leg, broken ribs, a punctured lung and head lacerations, and was hospitalised for seven to eight days. Mounsey was charged in March 2025, sent for trial in September 2025, and the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict in July 2026. He was remanded in custody to be sentenced later in the year.
