On Sunday 10 August 2025, gardaí stopped Aaron Hartshorn (20), of Colehill, Longford, on the Connacht Road in Longford town just after midnight and found an axe hanging out of his sports bag. A search at Longford Garda Station found drugs worth €50. He pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to possessing an offensive weapon, namely an axe, and possessing drugs. The sentence was reported on 26 June 2026, with one report giving a 16-month term with the final four months suspended and another giving one year in prison.
