  On 30 August 2017, Aaron Finnegan, a 28-year-old man from Haggardstown, was involved in a collision at the Avenue Road roundabout in Dundalk, where a witness said he took off at speed after rear-ending a silver Kia Sportage and a Renault Mégane. He was prosecuted for dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of the collision. At Dundalk District Court in February 2022, Judge Eirinn McKiernan fined him €300 and exercised her discretion not to disqualify him, while a separate Blackrock offence on the same date drew a €75 fine after a dangerous driving charge was reduced to careless driving. The defence said it was a momentary lapse of concentration and that he panicked.
